Three years ago, Rose Aguilar packed her VW bus and set out on a journey to the Red states of America. The result was her amazing book, RED HIGHWAYS: A LIBERAL'S JOURNEY INTO THE HEARTLAND. Well before the "Tea Party" made its formal appearance, Rose had discovered the people and the discontents behind it and documented it all in her book.

Rose, who is the host on KALW's "Your Call" spoke to the Alameda Public Affairs Forum over a year ago. Now she agreed to return and talk about the "tea party" in light of her historic journey into American heartland.

Those of you who have read her know she is a great speaker and has a lot to say about the upheaval in American politics that has biven  birth to the "tea party". Just what is it? An incipient fascist movement? A new populist insurgency? And most important of all, how should progressives respond to it?
