UC Berkeley Strike -- Noon Rally speeches
Have we returned to the 1960's? No, but the fertile ground that sparked the Free Speech Movement saw action in the form of a massive rally in Sproul Plaza, complete with impassioned speeches and an afternoon march.
What was it all about? Professors and union workers are being laid off. Students are not being admitted. Tuition and Fees are going up, Up, UP. So are the incomes of the Regents. Programs are being cut in the area of arts and humanities. Big bucks are being funneled into research and development. Corporations are heavily invested in the public education system, and yet, education, as a consumer product, is being taken out of the reach of the average person.
Hear speeches from the noon-time rally of 9/24/09 at UC Berkeley.
