The ACFTU (All-China Federation of Trade Unions), with whose representatives Professor Lichtenstein met on a recent trip to China, is a state run union that works on behalf of Chinese Manufacturers. Wal-Mart sources its merchandise in Chine and depends upon cheap labor for the goods sold here in the United States. Chinese workers are forbidden to organize independent trade unions. Our own Port of Oakland is a major link in the supply chain of Chinese goods to the United States for Wal-Mart.
